Skype on Apple TV
Latest News

The long-awaited release of ‘Skype for iPad’ in the iTunes App Store Charts had the internet buzzing this week. First it was there, then it was gone, and now it’s back again! Here at The Apple TV Guide, we just wanted to know if it would work with Apple TV or not? For those of you who were holding your breath, the wait is over. It’s official, Skype for iPad does work with Apple TV! Our development team successfully installed Skype for iPad and Mirrored the content directly to an Apple TV using AirPlay.

Now, to get started you will need an iPad 2 and iOS 5… So for those of you without an Apple developer account, you’ll have to wait a little while longer before firing up Skype on the big screen. iOS 5 will be available to the public next month, so if you own an iPad 2 and an Apple TV, it’s a ‘must have’ app.

It’s a shame that the display doesn’t work in full screen mode like ‘Real Racing 2 HD’, but both the picture and clarity are excellent. The team experienced no noticeable time delay in the display and the audio was flawless. FaceTime (Apple’s alternative to Skype) is gaining momentum, but for Skype lovers around the world, the ability to stream ‘Skype for iPad’ to an Apple TV must sound very exciting indeed.

From iTunes:

“Bring your Skype contacts closer with full screen video at your fingertips. Beautiful and simple, this is Skype built especially for the iPad. Call, video call, or instant message anyone on Skype. Plus, if you add a little Skype Credit, call landlines and mobiles at really low rates.”
